The current season has been a grueling test of endurance for Granada, with injuries wreaking havoc on their lineup. The team’s manager, Escribá, has had to develop a constant coping mechanism to deal with the seemingly endless string of setbacks. The latest blow came during the match against Córdoba, where Williams and Luca Zidane were forced to leave the game prematurely due to new physical issues. This unfortunate trend has been a persistent thorn in the side of the Andalusian team, with 13 first-team players missing a combined total of 75 games due to various injuries.
The injury bug has been a constant companion for Granada since the beginning of the season. Luca Zidane, the French goalkeeper, was the first to fall, initially struggling with knee problems that prompted the team to sign Mariño as a replacement. Now, Zidane is facing several weeks on the sidelines with an ankle sprain, giving Mariño another chance to prove himself. The defensive line has been particularly hard hit, with Escribá rarely having a full complement of players to choose from. Neva started as a starter but has missed 17 games due to injury, while Brau covered for him until he too fell victim to the injury curse.
As the campaign has progressed, other players have succumbed to muscle problems, including Williams, Rubio, Rubén Sánchez, and Insua. The latter has just returned to action after a lengthy absence due to a severe bruise that forced him to miss several games when he was in top form. In the midfield, most players have managed to avoid serious injuries, although Villar and Reinier have had sporadic absences, with the latter missing four games recently due to a muscle tear. Jozwiak, on the other hand, has been struggling with a nagging groin issue that has kept him sidelined for most of the season.
Injuries Across the Board
The offensive line has not been spared from this curse either. Boyé missed six games towards the end of 2024, and Diao, who could have capitalized on the opportunity, began the year with muscle problems that kept him out for two weeks. Rodelas adds to this dismal tally with another untimely muscle injury, which struck just as the young forward was starting to showcase his potential and break into the starting lineup. In stark contrast, players like Lama, Ricard, Hongla, Sergio Ruiz, Tsitaishvili, Weissman, and Mariño, as well as new arrivals Abde, Stoichkov, and Bastón, have managed to navigate the season without any major injuries, making them the exception rather than the rule in a year marked by setbacks for Granada.
