Injured Star Takes Charge of Australian Cricket Team

Australia’s Champions Trophy Squad Revealed

The Australian cricket team has announced its squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy, with some notable inclusions and exclusions. Despite speculation about his availability due to injury, Pat Cummins has been named in the team and will also captain the side.

Return of Experienced Players

Josh Hazlewood, who was injured during the India vs Australia Test series, will also be returning to the team. Other experienced players like Steve Smith and Mitchell Starc have also been included in the squad. Meanwhile, newcomers Matthew Short and Aaron Hardy will be making their debut in the ICC event.

Selection Surprises

Nathan Ellis, who had a strong bowling performance in the Big Bash League, has earned a spot in the team. However, Cameron Green will be missing out due to back surgery, and Shaun Abbott, who was part of the Australian team for the 2023 World Cup, has not been able to secure a place.

Uncertainty Over Pat Cummins’ Injury

There is still no clarity on the extent of Pat Cummins’ ankle injury, which will keep him out of the upcoming two-test match series against Sri Lanka. Despite this, Cummins has been declared the captain of the team.

Changes to the Team

Matthew Short has replaced David Warner, who recently retired. Jake Fraser McGurk, on the other hand, has been dropped from the team after a disappointing performance in the Big Bash League and recent ODI matches.

Champions Trophy Schedule

Australia has been placed in Group B alongside Afghanistan, England, and South Africa. The team will play its first match against England on February 22, followed by matches against South Africa on February 25 and Afghanistan on February 28.
