Inespre highlights more than 450 agricultural producers have received its support

More than 450 agricultural producers and 200 suppliers nationwide have benefited from the food purchases made by the Price Stabilization Institute (Inespre) in 14 months of the current administration.

The institution acquires the products with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Presidency of the Republic to market them in the producer markets and mobile warehouses, a statement from the institution requires.

Banana producers from La Vega, Moca, Salcedo, Santiago and San Francisco de Macorís have been favored with the purchase of 15 million units; while in Valverde Mao 5 million of the item have been acquired, details a note.

He adds that Inespre bought 40,000 quintals of rice from producers in Cotuí, San Francisco de Macorís, Valverde Mao, Dajabón and other points on the northwest line; more than a million chickens to poultry farmers in the Espaillat province and 100,000 cartons of eggs in the Central Cibao, according to data provided by its Marketing Directorate.

The government also acquired 30,000 quintals from the onion producers of Ocoa, Pedernales and Azua; as well as those of bananas from Valverde Mao and Montecristi, which have supplied 4 million units that have been sold in institutional programs.

In times of difficulty, the state entity acquired 50,000 quintals of carrots from producers in Constanza, 20,000 quintals of sweet potatoes in San Rafael del Yuma in La Altagracia province, 50,0000 quintals of yucca from farmers in Azua and 5,000 quintals of beans in San Juan.

The note adds that more than 50 producers also have the opportunity to transfer, place and sell their crops directly to the consumer in producer markets, the result of an agreement.

Iván Hernández Guzmán, director of Inespre, announced that by order of President Luis Abinader the agricultural team will continue to support the men and women of the field, facilitating the commercialization of their products and benefiting the population with fresh, quality food at fair prices.

“In times of overproduction, storms, losses, shortages, drought and in other situations, the institution has assisted with the purchase of products in coordination with the Government’s Agricultural Cabinet. It is good to note that Inespre has carried out operations in a large part of the national territory with more than 30 mobile warehouses and 50 producer markets that take place on Wednesdays and Saturdays in various parts of the country, impacting more than four million people and you never they have heard complaints that a product from us is in poor condition, expired or that a person has disliked it, “said Hernández Guzmán.

The official stressed that the goal is to continue advancing, increasing the number of institutional programs to continue bringing low-cost food to the Dominican table.

Members of the Dominican Associations of Banana Producers, of Agricultural Producers of the Espaillat province, Clúster del Plátano Dominicano and the Cooperativa de Platicultores Dominicanos highlighted the support of the Government with the purchase of their crops in times of overproduction and requested that the purchase of the item is extended until December 2021.
