Ineos confirms the absence of Egan Bernal in Paris-Nice

The organization of Paris-Nice, a race that will take place from March 5 to 12, had presented Egan Bernal as one of the stars for this year’s edition. However, a knee injury will prevent the Colombian from playing at La Verriere.

This was confirmed by the Ineos-Grenadiers through Rod Ellingworth, the assistant manager of the British squad, who in a press conference before the opening weekend of the competition commented: “We are not sure when it will run next time”.

Bernal’s physical problem arose during the Vuelta a San Juan in Januaryan injury that prevented him from running the National Road Championship in Bucaramanga and the Tour of Andalusia in Spain.

It was expected that his return would take place in Paris-Nice, race that has not run since 2019, when he became champion as a prelude to the first Colombian title in the history of the Tour de France, but the injury will prevent this from happening.

The Coppi e Bartali, a competition that will take place between March 21 and 25, would be an option that Ineos-Grenadiers manages for the return of Egan, according to information from Gazzetta dello Sport, although everything will depend on the evolution in your recovery process.
