India’s new army chief takes office

In India, Lieutenant General Manoj Chandra Shekhar Pandey has been appointed as the 29th Chief of Army Staff.

According to Indian media, Lieutenant General Manoj Chandrasekhar Pandey served as Vice Chief of Army Staff from February 1, 2022 to April 30, 2022.

He has also served as General Officer Commanding in Chief Eastern Command. He is the first Indian Army Chief to belong to the Engineering Corps.

Manoj Chandrashekar belongs to a Marathi family from Nagpur. After graduating from the National Defense Academy, he joined the Indian Army. He holds a degree in Civil Engineering from the College of Military Engineering, Pune.

He will be the Chief of the Indian Army till May 31, 2024.
