India's dream of winning gold shattered, lost by 9 runs to Australia in the final, took silver

Australia defeated team India by 9 runs in the 2022 cricket final at Edgbaston, Birmingham. This also shattered the Indian team’s dream of winning gold and they had to settle for the silver medal. Australia went 161 for 8 in 20 overs after playing first. In response, the Indian team was only able to score 152 runs.

With this victory, Australia has won the gold medal in cricket at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. At the same time, the Indian team that lost in the final got the silver medal.

World champions Australia clinched the gold medal by defeating India by nine runs in the first women’s T20 cricket final at the Commonwealth Games on Sunday. The Indian team had to be content with the silver medal.

Aided by Beth Mooney’s half-century, Australia went 161 for eight despite tremendous fielding from India. In response, Captain Harmanpreet Kaur scored 65 runs on 43 balls, but the lower-ranking batsmen were unable to lead the team to victory. The Indian team managed 152 runs in 19.3 overs.

Australia took the last five wickets in 13 races. Spinner Ashleigh Gardner took three wickets for 16 runs. Jemima Rodriguez scored 33 runs on 33 balls for India, while Shefali Verma (11) and Deepti Sharma (13) were the other batsmen to reach double figures.

Earlier in the packed stadium, Australia won the toss and decided to bat first. Indian fast bowler Renuka Singh Thakur, who was performing brilliantly in the tournament, gave India the first breakthrough by taking dangerous Alyssa Healy out of the first stage early. The referee ruled in favor of the bowler on DRS.
