Indian players created history by reaching the final of the Badminton Asia Team Championship for the first time

India’s daughters have made history in badminton. The Indian women’s team reached the final of the Badminton Asia Team Championship on Saturday. This is the first time that an Indian team has reached the final of this event. Neither a men’s team nor a women’s team had previously achieved this.

In the semi-final match, the Indian women’s team continued their journey by defeating two-time former champions Japan 3-2. In this semi-final match, the Indian pair of world number 23 Trisha Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand became the first to win the doubles. Then world number 53 Asmita Chaliha led India to victory in the singles. In the end, Anmol Kharab won the decisive singles and led India to the title match.

The Japanese team played without some of their big players in this game. Still, it was a good challenge. In the first singles, PV Sindhu had to admit defeat against Aya Ohori. After that, the pair of Trisha and Gayatri defeated the pair of Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida in the first doubles to level India 1-1.

From here, Asmita pulled off a surprise in the second singles by defeating former world champion Nojomi Okuhara to give India a 2-1 lead. PV Sindhu along with Ashwini Ponnappa then faced the pair of Rena Miyaura and Ayako Sakuramoto in the second doubles match. But the Indian pair lost and the Japanese team drew 2-2.

Now India had the upper hand over Anmol in the decisive singles match. In this big game, he defeated Natsuki Ndaira and led the Indian team to the final. The Indian team will now face Thailand in the final.
