Indian historian Ranjit Guha is no more

India’s renowned historian Ranjit Guha is no more. He breathed his last at his residence in Vienna, Austria on Saturday morning.

Historian Dipesh Chakraborty confirmed this information citing Ranjit Guha’s family.

Dipesh Chakraborty said, Ranjit Guha was ill for a long time. He died around 3 pm local time in Vienna due to various diseases and complications of age.

Ranjit Guher was born on May 23, 1923 in Siddhakati village of Bakharganj, Barisal. Family moved to Calcutta during Partition.

Ranjit Guha migrated from India to England in 1959 and joined the History Department of Sussex University as a Reader. He last lived in Vienna, Austria. His wife, Mechthild, and attendants were by his side in his final days at their residence in Vienna Woods, Austria.
