The return of the Indian team to the field after three months with the red ball was not good. India’s batting order, said to be strong, collapsed in front of a 21-year-old county bowler.

The Indian team take on English county club Leicestershire at the Grace Road Stadium in Leicester. On the rain-affected first day of this four-day warm-up match, the Indian team lost 8 wickets by just 246 runs. Credit for leading the team to this point goes to the only young wicketkeeper KS Bharat. Playing an undefeated innings of 70 runs, Bharat took the Indian team across the 200 mark.

Choosing to bat after winning the toss, the Indian team got off to a very poor start. Captain Rohit Sharma (25) gave wickets only in the total of 35 runs. KS Bharat and Virat Kohli (33) gave the team some support by sharing a 57-race partnership, but here Kohli also kept walking. After this, the sequence of falling windows continued from one end and KS Bharat (70) remained frozen at the other end. Even until the end of the day’s game, Bharat was standing in the crease. On the first day, India scored 246 runs for the loss of 8 wickets.

Leicestershire young fast bowler Roman Walker dominated all day. He sent a total of 5 Indian batsmen including Rohit and Virat to the pavilion. Walker took 5 wickets for 24 runs in 11 overs from him.
