Indian Batsman Chasing to Break Shikhar Dhawans Record in Champions Trophy

The Champions Trophy 2025 is just around the corner, and the excitement is palpable. After an eight-year hiatus, this ICC tournament is back, and with it, the possibility of new records being created and old ones being broken. But one question on everyone’s mind is – will Shikhar Dhawan’s record be one of them? Dhawan is currently leading the pack, but former Indian captain Virat Kohli is hot on his heels. For Kohli to break the record, though, he’ll need to find his form and play at least one big innings.

Shikhar Dhawan’s Impressive Record

In the history of the Champions Trophy, Chris Gayle holds the record for the most runs scored, with 791 runs in 17 matches. However, when it comes to India, Shikhar Dhawan is the batsman with the most runs, having scored 701 runs in just 10 matches in the ICC Champions Trophy. With Dhawan’s recent retirement from international cricket, his record seems safe – for now.

Virat Kohli Closes In

Virat Kohli is the closest to breaking Dhawan’s record. He has scored 529 runs in 13 Champions Trophy matches, putting him 172 runs behind Dhawan. With India set to play three league phase matches in this year’s Champions Trophy, and potentially more if they advance to the semi-finals and finals, Kohli will have at least three and possibly five matches to make up the difference. If he can score 173 runs, he’ll overtake Dhawan and claim the top spot.

Kohli’s Struggle for Form

Kohli is currently struggling with his form, failing to deliver with his bat in the recent series against England. However, when he’s on form, he’s nearly unbeatable. The question is, can he find his rhythm in time for the Champions Trophy? With this potentially being his last chance to break Dhawan’s record, the pressure is on. Kohli’s performance in the next three matches will be crucial in determining whether he can overcome the deficit and claim the top spot. Will he be able to rise to the challenge? Only time will tell.
