The final match of the T20 World Cup 2024 between India and South Africa at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, has ended with Team India emerging victorious. This marks the end of the 11-year ICC trophy drought and India’s first T20 World Cup title win in 17 years.

Indian Team Wins ICC Trophy After 11 Years

Batting first, India scored 176 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs. Despite being reduced to 34/3 in the powerplay on a dry and slow pitch, the Indian batsmen made a strong comeback, making it the highest score in the final of the T20 World Cup. Virat Kohli top-scored with 76 runs in 59 balls, while Akshar Patel contributed 47 runs in 31 balls.

Bowlers Pave the Way for India’s Victory

In reply, South Africa was restricted to 169 runs at the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs, with India winning by 7 runs. The Indian bowlers excelled, with Arshdeep Singh, Hardik Pandya, and Jaspreet Bumrah being the key contributors. Arshdeep and Jaspreet took 2-2 wickets each, while Hardik claimed 3 wickets for 20 runs.

Jasprit Bumrah Turns the Match Around

The match seemed to be slipping away from India, but Jasprit Bumrah’s 16th over gave them a lifeline, conceding just 4 runs and taking the wicket of Marco Jansen. Arshdeep’s 19th over proved crucial, while Hardik Pandya’s 20th over wrapped up the match, handing India a 7-run victory.
