India’s Ministry of Tourism has signed a non-commercial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Netflix. The partnership aims to promote the nation’s diverse tourist destinations on a global scale. This strategic alliance is considered a major step for the country’s tourism sector.
Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat confirmed the agreement in a written response to a question in the Lok Sabha. The minister detailed the objective to promote India’s natural landscapes, cultural heritage, and historical sites, including Gujarat, through cinematic storytelling.
Netflix will integrate more Indian tourist locations into its films, web series, and documentaries. This initiative seeks to showcase India’s authentic beauty and cultural vibrancy to a worldwide audience. The government expects this collaboration to increase foreign tourist arrivals and strengthen the “Incredible India” brand.
The partnership also offers significant benefits to India’s film industry. Filmmakers will gain access to unexplored locations across various states for their productions. This will not only highlight India’s scenic beauty in films but also stimulate local economies. It is expected to create jobs related to film shoots, provide opportunities for local artists, and boost tourism revenue in those regions.
