The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the official schedule for the ODI World Cup which will take place in India on June 27. With this, all the teams participating in this mega event now have less than 100 days to prepare. On the other hand, host India may take a big hit before the tournament with Shreyas Iyer, who is not yet fully fit due to his back injury.
Due to Shreyas Iyer’s back problem, he had decided to undergo surgery. After this, everyone expected her to be fully fit until the Asian Cup. Due to the surgery, Iyer was completely out of IPL season 16. Now the BCCI medical team has expressed concern about his slow recovery.
Regarding Iyer’s recovery, a senior BCCI official said in a statement to Inside Sport that they are hopeful he will be fit until the World Cup, but cannot say anything for sure. While Rahul and Bumrah’s recovery is moving in a much better direction.
Before the ODI World Cup 2023, the Indian team will get the Asian Cup as a big tournament to test their preparations. If Shreyas Iyer is left out of the mega event, then Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson will have a chance to carve out a place in the main team. Both players are considered to be very good at spin bowling. Aside from this, he also has the ability to score runs in the middle order with speed. The team will kick off their campaign in India with a match against Australia on October 8.
