The Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, has arrived in Dubai to participate in the Champions Trophy 2025. Their first match is against Bangladesh in Group-A on February 20. Although Bangladesh’s ODI record against India isn’t impressive, the Indian team won’t take them lightly, remembering their shocking defeat in the 2007 ODI World Cup. However, there’s a significant relief for Team India – Bangladesh’s star player Shakib Al Hasan won’t be playing, which could have been a major concern.
A First in 23 Years
Since 2002, Shakib Al Hasan has been a crucial part of Bangladesh’s playing 11 in all ICC tournaments against India. But this time, he wasn’t included in the squad for the Champions Trophy. For the first time in 23 years, Bangladesh will face India in an ICC tournament match without Shakib. His record against India is impressive, with 751 runs in 22 ODI matches at an average of 37.55, and 29 wickets. He has also dismissed Virat Kohli five times and Rohit Sharma twice in ODIs.
India’s Dominant ODI Record
The head-to-head record between India and Bangladesh in ODIs is heavily in India’s favor. Out of 41 matches, India has won 32, while Bangladesh has won only eight, with one match being canceled. In the Champions Trophy, the two teams have played only once, in 2017, which India won comfortably. With Shakib Al Hasan absent, India’s chances of winning have increased, and the team can breathe a sigh of relief. The focus will now be on executing their strategy and taking advantage of Bangladesh’s weakened bowling attack.
