United Nations: India’s ambassador to the United Nations has said that the serious threat of terrorism in Afghanistan continues to exist and that the current situation in the war-torn country will have a direct impact on India. At the same time, he reiterated the call for an inclusive government in Kabul that represents all sectors of Afghan society. India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, TS Tirumurti, told a meeting of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) held in the Security Council on Wednesday that the situation in Afghanistan remains worrying.

“Terrorism remains a serious threat in Afghanistan and the region. In fact, on several occasions since August, this council has unanimously condemned terrorist attacks on religious sites and hospitals. The victims of terrorist attacks include religious sites used by religious minorities.

The Indian envoy said that being a close neighbor of Afghanistan and a longtime friend of its people, the current situation in Afghanistan will have a direct impact on India. Tirumurti reiterated the call for an inclusive government in the war-torn country that represents all sectors of Afghan society.

“Our immediate priorities include evacuating people who are willing to move and ensuring continuous movement so that people there can move in and out of Afghanistan,” he said. An inclusive and representative government will have greater international acceptance and legitimacy. Tirumurti said that today it is extremely important that the international community raise its voice on Afghanistan with one voice.
