India-Pakistan Clash Results in Civilian Casualties, Death Toll Reports Differ Between Sides

Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated sharply after India’s air strike on nine targets in Pakistan late Tuesday. At least 10 civilians were killed, and 32 injured, according to the Indian military. However, Pakistan disputes this number, reporting higher casualties.

The Indian military said all the victims were from the Poonch district, near the Line of Control separating India and Pakistan. Pakistan’s military reported 26 dead and 46 injured. The Pakistani government summoned the Indian envoy to protest the air raid. Pakistan condemned India’s actions as a clear act of war and notified the UN Security Council.

Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said the attack killed and injured civilians, including women and children. It called India’s actions a “clear violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty.” The ministry maintained that the targeted areas were civilian, not militant camps as India claimed. Pakistan reserved the right to respond appropriately.

The BBC reported on the developing situation. India’s actions have sparked international concern, with the situation remaining volatile.
