ODI World Cup 2023: The ODI World Cup 2023 begins on October 5 on Indian soil. The first game will be played between New Zealand and England. India last won the ODI World Cup in 2011 under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. India has made it to the final of the ODI World Cup three times so far. 1st ODI World Cup 1975

The ODI World Cup was first played in England in 1975. The captain of Team India in the first World Cup was Srinivasaraghavan Venkataraghavan. Under his captaincy, Team India played three matches, out of which they managed to win only one. In the first match of this World Cup, India faced England in which Sunil Gavaskar batted the entire 60 overs and was not out after scoring 36 runs.

2nd ODI World Cup 1979

The captain of Team India in the 1979 ODI World Cup was Srinivasaraghavan Venkataraghavan. Under his captaincy, Team India played three matches and failed to win even one. India suffered defeats against West Indies, New Zealand and Sri Lanka.

3rd ODI World Cup 1983

Under the captaincy of Kapil Dev, Team India won the 1983 ODI World Cup title and became the second team after West Indies to win the ODI World Cup trophy. India defeated a strong team like the West Indies by 43 runs in the final. India had also defeated the teams of Australia, Zimbabwe and England in this World Cup.

4th ODI World Cup 1987

The 1987 ODI World Cup was jointly organized by India and Pakistan. This time the captaincy of Team India was in the hands of Kapil Dev. The Indian team managed to reach the semi-finals, but suffered a 35-run defeat against England.

5th ODI World Cup 1992

The captain of Team India in the 1992 ODI World Cup was Mohammad Azharuddin. Under his captaincy, Team India failed to perform well and India won only two out of seven matches and suffered five defeats. Due to this, the team was eliminated from the round-robin stage itself.

6th ODI World Cup 1996

The captain of Team India in the 1996 ODI World Cup was Mohammad Azharuddin. This time Team India had reached the semi-finals. But lost to Sri Lanka in the semi-final.

7th ODI World Cup 1999

The captain of Team India in the 1999 ODI World Cup was Mohammad Azharuddin. In this World Cup, Team India had won four out of eight games and was defeated in four games. For this reason the team was eliminated from the Super-6.

8th ODI World Cup 2003

Sourav Ganguly took charge of Team India in the 2003 ODI World Cup. The team had reached the final but suffered a humiliating 125-run defeat to Australia in the final. India won 9 out of 11 matches in this World Cup.

9th ODI World Cup 2007

Rahul Dravid was the captain of Team India in the 2007 ODI World Cup. Under his captaincy, India was eliminated in the group stage. Team India had won only one out of three games. India suffered a defeat against Bangladesh.

10th ODI World Cup 2011

India won the 2011 ODI World Cup title under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni and avenged last season’s crushing defeat by defeating Bangladesh in the first match of that World Cup. India defeated Sri Lanka in the final to win the ODI World Cup title after 28 years. Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni played an innings of 91 runs in the final.

11th ODI World Cup 2015

In the 2015 ODI World Cup, the command of Team India was in the hands of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The Indian team had won 7 out of 8 matches this season but suffered defeat against Australia in the semi-finals.

12th ODI World Cup 2019

Team India was captained by Virat Kohli in the 2019 ODI World Cup. Team India performed well in this World Cup and won 7 out of 10 matches. Rohit Sharma had scored five centuries in this World Cup. But in the semi-final, the Indian team collapsed in front of the New Zealand bowlers and were defeated by 18 runs.
