India Favorites to Win Champions Trophy Without Bumrah Says Clarke

The ICC Champions Trophy is just around the corner, scheduled to kick off on February 19 in Pakistan, with some matches also taking place in Dubai, UAE. Team India has already left for Dubai, set to face off against Bangladesh on February 20. However, they’ll be doing so without their star bowler Jasprit Bumrah, which could be a significant setback. But despite this, former Australian captain Michael Clarke, who led his team to an ODI win in 2015, believes that India is still the biggest contender to take home the Champions Trophy.

Team India can win the Champions Trophy even without Bumrah

Michael Clarke shared his thoughts on the Champions Trophy in the Beyond 23 Cricket Podcast, saying that while Bumrah’s absence will definitely be felt, India is still the team to beat. He pointed out that with Shubman Gill in top form and Rohit Sharma back on track, you can’t count them out. It’s hard to disagree with Clarke’s assessment, given the depth of talent in the Indian team. And let’s be honest, when you’ve got players like Rohit Sharma on your side, you’ve always got a chance.

Hardik Pandya can prove to be the X factor

Clarke also highlighted the importance of all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who could be the X factor that sets India apart in the tournament. Pandya has a reputation for delivering in big matches, and his absence was felt during the Australian tour. Given that he only plays limited overs format, Clarke believes that Pandya’s presence could be the key to India’s success. It’s interesting to think about how Pandya’s skills will play out in this tournament – will he be the game-changer that India needs?
