India-Egypt Relationship: India’s friendly relations with most of the countries of the world are well known. In this direction, India has started a new era in the direction of defense cooperation with the country of Egypt. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh held extensive discussions with Egyptian Defense Minister General Mohamed Zaki on defense cooperation between the two countries. Also India and Egypt signed an MoU to enhance bilateral defense cooperation. The Defense Minister arrived here on Sunday on a three-day visit to the strategically important Arab country.

He had a wonderful meeting with the Egyptian Defense Minister General Mohamed Zaki in Cairo. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted that we had extensive discussions on several initiatives to further expand bilateral defense ties. This will further strengthen the relations between India and Egypt. The Defense Ministry said in a statement after the meeting that the two sides discussed steps to strengthen defense ties and to enhance cooperation in joint exercises, exchange of personnel for training, especially in the field of counter-terrorism. I reached a consensus. The two ministers also agreed to identify proposals to enhance cooperation between the defense industries of India and Egypt in a time bound manner. They also exchanged views on regional security and acknowledged the contribution of India and Egypt to peace and stability in the world.

Both countries united against terrorism

The Indian Defense Ministry statement said that both sides expressed happiness at the intensified defense engagement and exchanges compared to the previous year despite the COVID-19 pandemic. The two ministers agreed to focus on further strengthening and advancing bilateral cooperation, including in the security and defense aspects. The two defense ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in the defense sector, the statement said. This MoU will pave the way for enhanced defense cooperation in all areas of mutual interest. Before the start of the bilateral talks, Singh was presented with a ceremonial guard of honor at the Defense Ministry in Cairo. Rajnath Singh also met Egyptian President Abdul Fattah el-Sisi on Monday and the two leaders discussed bilateral military cooperation. The CC said there is a need for both countries to share expertise and best practices to combat the menace of terrorism.
