On the first day, Jaishankar met Argentine President Alberto Fernandez and discussed ways to improve trade relations. Also discussed the possibility of bilateral cooperation in defense and nuclear energy. But a special thing in this tour was Argentina’s interest in the Tejas aircraft made in India.

Argentina has also shown interest to buy Tejas fighter jets manufactured in India. The specialty of our Tejas aircraft is such that not only Argentina, the world’s largest country America is also showing interest in this fighter aircraft developed in India. Apart from this, 6 countries including Australia, Indonesia and Philippines have shown interest in India’s light combat aircraft Tejas. While Malaysia is already preparing to buy this aircraft.

External Affairs Minister Jaishankar holds meeting with Argentine counterpart

External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar co-chaired a comprehensive and joint commission meeting with Argentine Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero. In which a comprehensive review was done on strategic areas including defence, space and nuclear issues, market access, agriculture and animal husbandry trade and investment.

After meeting Argentine President Fernandez, Dr Jaishankar said that thank you to the President for receiving me. Jaishankar said the Argentine President discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation, including making trade levels more sustainable and ambitious. They also exchanged views on energy and food security. He underlined the importance of affordable healthcare, including pharmaceuticals. The two leaders also exchanged views on defense cooperation as well as the possibilities of nuclear energy.
