In the local body elections in the Indian state of Odisha, the hijab-wearing Muslim woman candidate Gul Mukhi Dalwazi has won by a landslide.
In India, where Hindu extremism is rampant and the hijab has been banned in various places, a Muslim woman in hijab has defeated the candidate of the Hindu extremist ruling party BJP in the local body elections. Dekar has won the local body elections.
Gul Miki Dalwazi, who contested the local body elections as an independent candidate in Bhadrak district of Odisha state, won by getting 28115 votes, while her nearest BJP candidate Samita Mishra got 24859 votes as compared to BJP. Candidate Geeta Najli Padhiari got only 6787 votes.
It should be noted that the anti-hijab campaign in India has been on the rise for the last several months due to which many Muslim girls were banned from entering educational institutions and under the same guise an attempt was made to harm the lives and property of Muslims.
Many quarters in India itself are questioning the Karnataka court’s controversial decision on the anti-hijab controversy.
