According to media reports, the fire broke out due to a technical fault in the plane, however, the plane landed safely and all the passengers were safe. 185 people were on board the crashed plane.

Indian Civil Aviation says the crash was caused by a bird colliding with the plane, after which the engine was shut down.

A spokesman for the airline SpiceJet said in a statement that after taking off into the air, the cockpit crew suspected that the bird had collided with engine number one, at which point the flight captain shut down the engine as a precautionary measure and returned the plane.
