The Indian team suffered a major setback just before the five-game T20 series against South Africa which began on June 9. KL Rahul, who was named team captain in the absence of Rohit Sharma, has been injured. His injury is so serious that he has been ruled out of the five game T20I series against South Africa. Rishabh Pant has been appointed team captain for this series.
Not much information about KL Rahul’s injury has been revealed yet. But the BCCI has confirmed that KL Rahul will not be part of the five-match T20I series against South Africa. However, the situation is unclear whether KL Rahul will be part of the India team in the England tour or not.
Rishabh Pant was made vice-captain even before the start of the series. Now the BCCI has made it clear that should KL Rahul not play, the command of the team will be in the hands of Rishabh Pant. Rishabh Pant will become India’s second youngest captain to captain in T20 as soon as he captains in the first match. At number one is Suresh Raina, who took charge of the Indian team in T20 against Zimbabwe in 2010.
