IND vs SA: the aftermath of covid-19 forced duanne olivier not to participate in the centurion test

South African pacemaker Duane Olivier missed the first test against India due to the effects of COVID-19, but will likely be fully fit by the time he plays the second test.

According to a report from ESPNcricinfo, Olivier was supposed to play in the first test, but a few weeks ago his physical condition was affected by Kovid-19’s grip, which is still affecting him. In his absence, left-arm fast pitcher Marco Jensen made his Test debut.

South Africa’s selection committee coordinator Victor Mpitsang was quoted in the report as saying: “Duane Olivier is healthy, but a few weeks ago he tested positive for Kovid-19. He had been isolated and therefore has to play the Test series against India I didn’t have enough practice before.

Olivier has so far taken 48 wickets in 10 test matches. He has done well in first-class matches so far this year, taking 28 wickets.

“Before the first test match, he (Olivier) felt uncomfortable due to muscle tension during the warm-up match between the team and therefore the selectors did not consider it appropriate to take any risks,” Ampitsang said.

Former coach Ravi Shastri made a great statement regarding the distribution of the captaincy in Team India

The first test match between India and South Africa is currently taking place at Centurion. Batting first after winning the toss, India had 272 runs from three wickets.
