  • Cheteshwar Pujara ready for Test match against New Zealand
  • Pujara has benefited from playing without fear, his technique has not changed
  • The first test match between India and New Zealand will be played in Kanpur from Thursday.

Cheteshwar Pujara, who is considered the backbone of Indian hitting in test matches, is happy that hitting with a fearless approach has restored his momentum and will no longer put undue pressure on himself. Pujara said not scoring a testing century for the past three years is not a concern for him as long as his 80 and 90 runs from his bat help the team win.

During the team’s practice session, when Pujara was asked if his attacking hitting had an advantage in the last series against England, he said, “Yeah, I think so.” Performance wise the mindset was a bit different, but technology wise I don’t think there has been any major change in technology. I was a little brave, which helped. ”

He admitted that he used to push himself too hard, but things turned around after his 91 and 61 innings at Leeds and The Oval. “You don’t need to push yourself too hard, and instead of worrying too much about what’s going on, try going out on the field and enjoying your game,” he said.

“That was the mentality during the England series. The preparation has been good so far and the experience of playing in Indian conditions will help in the upcoming test matches.

Pujara hasn’t scored a testing century since January 2019, but that’s not a problem for him. He said: “As far as my century is concerned, it will happen when it happens. My job is to hit well for the team and it’s not like I’m not scoring runs. I’m playing an 80 or 90 inning. I’m hitting well and contributing to the team. I don’t care about my century. It is a question of an entrance “.

Ajinkya Rahane, who was the team captain at the Kanpur Test, also hasn’t been able to play big consistently for some time, but Pujara believes he is just one inning away from a great score. “He is a great player, but there are times when a player goes through difficult moments and that is part of the game. So there will be ups and downs, I’m sure he’s just one inning away from getting a big score. With a century or a grand entrance, you will find the momentum. ,

Pujar is excited to play with the new coach of the Indian team, Rahul Dravid, as his technique is similar to that of the former Indian great. “I have worked with him during Series A, so we are all looking forward to his guidance. The experience you have as a player and coach of the team will help. ,
