Rishabh Pant batted tremendously in the opening innings of Test 5 against England. He brought the heat into Birmingham with his swashbuckling shot in the rain-chilled weather. Pant mercilessly beat all English bowlers without any discrimination. The Indian wicketkeeper/batsman played a brilliant innings of 146 runs on 111 balls under difficult conditions. He had 19 fours and four sixes in his innings for a strike rate of 131.53.

Pant shares record partnership with Jadeja

During the Indian innings, Pant came to bat at number five and shared a 222-run partnership with number seven batsman Ravindra Jadeja. These two players formed this partnership in 239 balls, in which Pant contributed 133 runs in just 95 balls and Jadeja contributed 68 runs. Together, these two batsmen also equaled the record for the sixth wicket association for India.

First goalkeeper batsman to score centuries in two consecutive innings abroad

Pant played his final innings on foreign soil against South Africa in Cape Town before scoring a century in Birmingham. He scored an unbeaten 100 in this inning. After Edgbest’s innings, he became the first Indian goalkeeper batsman to score centuries in two consecutive innings on foreign soil and on two different continents.

Pant breaks Dhoni’s record

Before Rishabh Pant, the fastest century in Test cricket was Indian goalkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni who scored a century on 93 balls. Pant broke this record by scoring a century on 89 balls at Edgbaston.

Rishabh Pant is the third Indian batsman to score a century on Edgbest. Previously, this feat was performed only by Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli, but they both played over a hundred balls to score a century.
