IND vs ENG test: BCCI on Saturday announced Team India’s squad for the remaining three matches of the Test series against England. Shreyas Iyer’s name was not included in this team. Although there was recent news about Iyer’s fitness, BCCI left his name out of the squad while announcing the team without giving an update on Iyer. A lot of questions have been raised regarding this as BCCI has definitely stated the reason behind the changes made in the team. Only nothing was said about Shreyas Iyer.

What could be the reason for an injury or poor form?

Shreyas Iyer has been in poor form for some time now. No runs come from his bat. Iyer also disappointed in this series. In such a situation, one can also say that Iyer might not have been there due to his poor form, but BCCI hasn’t said anything of the sort, so it might be too early to say anything about it.

Iyer played innings of 35, 13, 27, 29 runs in four innings of the two games in the series against England. Iyer had a chance but the fast bowlers have understood his weakness and it is clearly visible that it is hurting them. Iyer has had two poor years in Test cricket, averaging 21.60 in three matches this year and 13.16 in four Test matches in 2023.

This player’s chair was saved because of Iyer

If any player would get the biggest relief with Iyer being ruled out for the remaining games of the series, then that player would be none other than Sarfaraz Khan. In fact, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja have now returned to the Team India squad after getting injured in the first Test. In such a situation, it was believed that if these players returned, Sarfaraz Khan might be dropped again, but BCCI kept Sarfaraz Khan in Team India.
