In the ongoing fifth test between India and England, the Indian team has made a strong counterattack. England bowlers pushed India defensively in the opening session of the first day of the final Test match which was played at Edgbaston. After winning the toss and calling India to bat first, James Anderson and Matthew Potts together hit the visiting team five times in the 98th minute.

At one point it seemed that the Indian team would soon return to the pavilion. But Rishabh Pant along with Ravindra Jadeja dealt a blow to the hopes of the British. Pant scored his century, while Jadeja scored a half century. Rishabh Pant batted with his aggressive style and made a fierce English bowling class. He first scored his fifty in 51 balls and then completed his fifth career Test century in 89 balls.

Pant played freely all over the field and didn’t give any pitcher a chance to recover. He made English spinner Jack Leach his biggest victim and played long shots. Pant is the third Indian player to score a century at Edgbaston. Before him, Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli had spent centuries in this field.

Pant also broke a record held by Mahendra Singh Dhoni with his century. He has now become the fastest Indian to score a century as a goalkeeper in the Tests. Before him, Dhoni had completed his 100 runs from 93 balls against Pakistan in 2006.
