The T20I series between India and England has recently concluded, with India winning 4-1 in the 5-match series. Now, both teams are set to face each other in the ODI series, for which the squads were announced earlier. However, a significant update has emerged just two days before the first ODI match, scheduled to take place in Nagpur on February 6. Varun Chakraborty, the promising spinner who performed exceptionally well in the T20I series, has been included in the Indian team for the ODI series.
Varun Chakraborty was the highest wicket-taker in the 5-match T20I series, claiming a total of 14 wickets. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially confirmed his inclusion in the squad. In a press conference before the first ODI, Shubman Gill hinted that Varun Chakraborty has joined the team, and given his current form, he may also find a place in the playing eleven for the first ODI. Notably, Varun Chakraborty has not played an ODI for India yet.
BCCI released a statement
The BCCI issued a statement stating that the Selection Committee has included Varun Chakraborty in the Indian team for the upcoming 3-match ODI series against England. Varun’s impressive performance against England, including five wickets taken in Rajkot, earned him the best player of the series award. He has joined the Indian ODI team in Nagpur.
