- Who had the chance between Karthik and Pant?
- Ponting gave a shocking answer
- This special advice given to Rohit
IND vs. AUS: The Indian cricket team is currently preparing for the T20 World Cup 2022. Currently, the India team is playing against Australia in the three match T20I series. There are only a few days left in the World Cup, but so far captain Rohit Sharma cannot pick a good 11-player squad. Especially between Dinesh Karthik and Rishabh Pant, who should get a place in the squad is still a big question. However, legendary hitter Ricky Ponting has had his say on the matter.
Clash between Karthik and Pant
There has been a long-running debate between veteran Dinesh Karthik and youngster Rishabh Pant over who should be India’s goalkeeper-designated hitter ahead of the T20 World Cup which starts next month in Australia. While the right-handed Karthik can lay claim to being a specialist finisher in the game’s shorter format, the southpaw’s immense talent has seen him garner support on a number of occasions. Now former Australia captain Ricky Ponting believes India should try to field both Karthik and Pant in the same eleven, which has happened on the first few occasions.
Two chances for both players – Ponting
Said Ponting in a new episode of the ICC Review programme: “I really think these two players (Karthik and Pant) are in the best team in India. I don’t care if they are both goalkeepers, but I think they are hitting enough. Rishabh in the middle order and Dinesh as a finisher, they look extremely dangerous to me.”
However, Ponting believes the 24-year-old Pant is ahead of the 37-year-old Karthik as he is likely to get more opportunities in the team. Ponting has seen Pant as the head coach of Delhi Capitals in the IPL, where he is captain. Look, I’m only going to favor Rishabh because I think he might have a little more chance than Dinesh.”
Who among Bumrah-Afridi is ahead?
Ponting said pacemaker Jasprit Bumrah has an advantage over Pakistan’s left-arm pacemaker Shaheen Shah Afridi because of his previous experience playing in Australian conditions. Asked to choose between Glenn Maxwell and Hardik Pandya as his favorite all-around pick, Ponting commented that Pandya could have more impact on the ball in Australia. At the same time, he supported Maxwell to be more explosive with the bat.
