Dubai: Dubai has made an important announcement for reducing carbon emissions and environment-friendly projects.
According to Arab News, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has approved a plan to make all taxis environmentally friendly by 2027.
Under the five-year plan, taxis will be transitioned to hybrids and hydrogen, part of the authority’s plan to make public transport fully eco-friendly by 2050.
The director general of the authority, Matar Muhammad Al-Tayer, told the media that the experience of making the vehicles environment-friendly has confirmed that the carbon emissions in the environment have decreased.
He said that hybrid vehicles last longer than conventional vehicles and are cost-effective, besides their cost, maintenance, fuel costs, insurance premiums and other costs are 50 percent less than conventional vehicles.
In the first phase, by making 50% of the taxis eco-friendly, carbon emissions were reduced by 420,000 tonnes annually.

It should be noted that the Roads and Transport Authority has already hybridized a good percentage of taxis in Dubai.
