In the flood situation, Pakistan can be helped by debt repayment, Antonio Guterres

Geneva: United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres said that Pakistan’s help in the flood situation could also be through cooperation in debt repayment.

United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres while speaking at the opening session of the World Donors Conference for the construction and rehabilitation of flood affected areas said that he was heartbroken to see the scenes of destruction due to floods in Pakistan.

The General Secretary said that the countries that are in solidarity with the people of Pakistan are grateful. Eight million people have become homeless in Pakistan due to the destruction of floods in Pakistan.

The UN Secretary General said that he was surprised to see the generosity and passion of the Pakistani people even in bad conditions. The Pakistani people have shown generosity to the victims of the floods.

Antonio Guterres said that aid can be given to Pakistan through cash, transfer and other methods through the conference, Pakistan needs 16 billion dollars immediately for the rehabilitation of flood victims.

He said that he went and witnessed the devastation caused by floods in Pakistan.

Antonio Guterres said that Pakistan has to face the climate change and pay the debts.

The UN General said that the effects of climate change have come to the fore in Pakistan, countries facing climate change need immediate help and today’s conference is the first step for rehabilitation and reconstruction of flood victims.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres while addressing the conference added that Pakistan is a victim of morally corrupt international economic system with natural disasters.
