In Thailand, the opposition candidate gives birth two weeks before the election

In Thailand, while the legislative elections are scheduled in two weeks, one of the main candidates for the post of Prime Minister in Thailand has just given birth. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, daughter of former billionaire prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, is among the favorites for the post of prime minister. As the campaign for the May 14 election begins its home stretch, the reformist parties, including the Pheu Thai, are leading the race, ahead of the traditional parties.

However, it was not specified how long the candidate would rest after giving birth, but she assured that she will be present at a Pheu Thai rally on May 12 in Bangkok. Paetongtarn Shinawatra campaigned virtually last week, appearing via video on Saturday at a rally in eastern Si Sa Ket province.

Thaksin back?

On his official Instagram account, Paetongtarn Shinawatra said his son would be named Prutthasin Sooksawas, and nicknamed “Thasin”. The news was also shared by his father Thaksin Shinawatra, who tweeted that he would return to the kingdom to care for his seven grandchildren, without specifying a date.

Ousted from power by a coup in 2006, Thaksin now lives in Dubai to escape corruption charges that he considers politically motivated. This is not the first time he has promised to return.
