It is in a territory lost in the cold, in the middle of ice, snow and icebergs that the artist Ferial spent two stays in residence on a boat.
His pictures taken in Svalbard, a Norwegian archipelago located in the Arctic Ocean bear witness to global warming. “It is a sentinel place of the climate with enormous problems which ultimately impact the rest of the globe, alert the photographer. We don’t really realize it because it’s a bit far, a bit high and then not many people doesn’t know Svalbard” she adds.

An artist fascinated by the Far North
Ferial is a girl from the south who is passionate about Norse mythology. The photographer let herself be enchanted by the landscapes of the Far North. Her fascination for countries lost in the cold led her to unsuspected horizons such as this discovery of the islands of Svalbard, at the gates of the North Pole, aboard the boat Polarfront. For each shot taken up there, she rediscovered her past as a painter by creating a pictorial work.
“That’s what interests me because I create my universe on a given shot” she explains. Férial also took part, in the heart of winter 2018, in an artist residency in the Arctic, on the boat Le Manguier. This experience led to the creation ofIn Greenland remember the future. The book was published in Editions Elytis. The photos of his last trip will, in turn, be the subject of a book in early 2023.
