The film was based on the life of the Mumbai bar girls in which Tabu played the title role. She then recounted that during the filming of the movie Heroine, she told Kareena Kapoor that she had filled Chandni’s bar with the same budget that she spent on her dress in this movie.

The film Chandni Bar was released in 2001 and Heroine in 2012. There was a difference of 12 years between the two films. Chandni Bar was Madhur Bhandarkar’s dream project. And he wanted to make this movie the way he thought, but all the production companies he met advised him to make some changes. So he decided to make this movie himself. And the result was excellent. He gave an animated film to Hindi cinema on a very low budget, which is discussed even today.
