BRASILIA: Gunmen in Brazil have taken a staff hostage and robbed a bank after robbing a bank in a military operation.
Attackers armed with sophisticated weapons, ammunition and drones wiped out banks in two separate operations, the agency said. Gunmen robbed both banks in the densely populated southern city of Aracatoba and tied staff to their vehicle to escape the operation.
Gunmen tied employees to a vehicle and drove it away, killing three people. Two civilians and an assailant were killed and six others were injured in Monday’s incident, according to police officials.
Authorities said the attackers also planted landmines and cordoned off various police stations to prevent police from advancing. An eyewitness told local media that the attackers were “wearing bulletproof jackets and helmets, had rifles and looked like soldiers.”
The governor of the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo has ordered the formation of a special police task force to arrest the suspects, which will include 380 police officers.

“The terror that the people of Arakatoba have gone through is very painful. We will bring the culprits to justice in any case,” he said in a statement. “Two criminals involved in the incident have been caught while one policeman has been killed in the encounter,” he said.
