Important UN directive to the UN regarding the Taliban

New York: UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has called on all countries to continue dialogue with the Taliban, saying that dialogue with the Taliban is necessary to prevent terrorism.

According to the details, in an interview given to AFP, Antonio Guterres has expressed his fear that coming to power of the Taliban could strengthen the jihadists in African countries. He said all member states should continue to engage with the Taliban in solidarity with the Afghan people, so that they can be made directly aware of the principles.

The Secretary-General urged all countries not to allow an economic crisis to develop in Afghanistan, noting that global sanctions and the freezing of Afghanistan’s financial reserves would facilitate the Afghan economy.

“The outcome of the talks with the Taliban cannot be guaranteed, but if we do not want Afghanistan to become a hotbed of terrorism, women and girls will not lose all the rights they have gained in the past,” Guterres said. And if all ethnic groups are equally represented, dialogue is essential.

The Secretary-General said that in all the talks that have taken place so far, at least the Taliban have expressed willingness. On the other hand, Afghanistan’s ambassador to the United Nations, Ghulam Ishaqzai, has called on all member states to impose sanctions on the Taliban.
