One of the big news to close this week comes from Fernando Alonso and the team of Internet Bull. And all this comes from the ex-pilot Damon Hill, who in the last few hours said that if he had to choose a current driver to form a team, it would be the Spaniard.
The former driver applauds the great teamwork that the two-time champion did in Hungary and believes that performances like this set him apart from the rest. Hill praises the work of Alonso’s team in Hungary, thanks to which Esteban Ocon achieved his first victory in Formula 1.
“I must say that Fernando is at the top of the list I would like to have today. Ocon applauded his work in Hungary and maturity brought Alonso up. When you’re younger, faster and more competitive, it’s harder to work with someone,” Hill said.
Hill remembers the high level he had in his first years in Formula 1, as he had to compare himself to five drivers who won more than ten races in the premier class and four of them were world champions. The Brit explains that drivers are passionate about facing the best.
“My career has always been marked by the companions I had. I was with Alain Prost, Ayrton Senna, Nigel Mansell, David Coulthard and Jacques Villeneuve. You always like to fight side by side with the best, but you don’t want to fight them if you don’t see yourself capable of defeating them”, he indicated.
“I was never Michael Schumacher’s teammate, but I also raced against him in very similar cars. Of course, I’ll never know if I could fight Lewis Hamilton; all drivers like to know our real position on the grid”, said Damon Hill at the end of his speech on the subject.
