If you change your old iPhone’s region to France, it will work faster

Today we got one of the weirdest reports we’ve read in a long time: If you change your old iPhone’s region to France, it will work faster.

While this may seem strange at first glance, there is actually a reason for this strange behavior.

In 2017, it was discovered that the performance of the iPhone 6, 6s, 7 and SE has decreased compared to what they displayed when they bought it, and synthetic tests like Geekbench have confirmed it.

At the time, some accused Apple of slowing down its older iPhones to get users to upgrade to newer models (known as “scheduled obsolescence”), but that was not the purpose of the measure imposed by Apple.

The company explained that I wasn’t trying to force customers to update their phones at all. making your older iPhones slower. Instead, they implemented mechanisms to smooth high and short power consumption spikes which can cause problems such as reboots with old batteries.

Apple later apologized to its customers for how reporting this change was handled and announced a reduction in the cost of replacing the iPhone battery. In addition, it promised an iOS update that provides information about battery health.

Although, in France, the company was fined for the incident of reduced work frequency and, apparently, Apple was forced to disable this behavior on iPhones sold in that country.

By him, when selecting France as the region on a fairly old iPhone, the working frequency of the processor is not reduced even if the battery has degraded. This means that the phone moves faster, but in turn may experience a sudden shutdown if the battery degrades.

However, on the iPhone 12 Pro, the score is basically the same as before and after relocating to France. This indicates that the reduction in iPhone performance does not affect new iPhones, as expected, as the battery is in good condition.
