If removed from the UN Security Council? Russia’s stern warning

Russia’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Dmitry Polyansky has made it clear that Russia can only be removed from the Security Council if the United Nations is dissolved.

According to foreign media reports, Dmitry Polyanski, Russia’s first Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, made the statement at the request of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelinsky on Russia’s withdrawal from the UN Security Council.

Russian envoy Dmitry Polyanski commented on Ukrainian President Zelensky’s demands, saying “these remarks are not effective for security.” Withdrawal from the Security Council will only be possible if the United Nations is abolished and reconstituted.

The Russian envoy also said that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky was allowed to speak before the UN Security Council without prior consultation with other members of the council, in violation of current procedures.

He added that Kyiv’s job was to “provoke” UN Security Council members, who are increasingly fed up with the Ukraine issue. According to Polyansky, both Ukrainian President Zelensky and Ukraine’s ambassador to the United Nations are losing their breath, claiming from time to time that Russia has no right to a seat on the UN Security Council. Maintained illegally after the collapse of the Soviet Union. “It’s ridiculous. We have explained it, and even the UN officials have provided appropriate explanations,” he said.
