Idli Kadai X Review: Dhanush-Nithya Menen Film Draws Mixed Audience Reactions

The buzz is real. The much-talked-about film ‘Idli Kadai’ finally hit theaters this Wednesday, October 1st. Fans have been eager to see South cinema favorite Dhanush back on the big screen. He stars alongside the talented Nithya Menen in this much-anticipated comedy-drama. As soon as the credits rolled, moviegoers rushed to social media platform X to share their first impressions.

The internet is a mix of cheers and jeers for ‘Idli Kadai’. Many viewers found the chemistry between Dhanush and Nithya Menen quite appealing. The story itself, a comedy-drama, struck an emotional chord with many. However, opinions varied wildly on the overall experience. Some people especially loved the movie’s first half, while others felt the second part wasn’t quite as strong.

Audiences Weigh In

Reactions on X are coming in fast. One viewer simply called the film “boring.” Another fan, with a completely different take, labeled it a “must watch movie.” This highlights the wide range of feelings about the new release.

Journalist Jiya Rahman shared a glowing review. Rahman described ‘Idli Kadai’ as a “heartwarming film,” ranking it as Dhanush’s best work since his movie ‘Pa Paandi’. The review praised the film’s “simple writing,” “effective staging and narration,” and its strong “stellar cast, music, and production.” Rahman noted that some parts might feel a little “outdated or even a bit cringy,” but felt these minor issues didn’t overshadow the film’s core message.

Kaamini, another movie buff on X, seemed impressed with the opening. She exclaimed that the “1st half 🔥” was amazing. Kaamini gave high marks to the acting of Dhanush, Arun Vijay, and Nithya Menen, calling their performances “on fire 🔥.” She also commended Dhanush’s direction, saying it was “on peak,” and praised GV Prakash as an “isai asuran” (music demon), a high compliment for his musical score.

Some reviewers offered a more balanced take. Roshan M described the first half as “simple and neat,” praising Dhanush’s writing as “at his Best” and highlighting an “emotional interval.” While he found the “2nd half begging light drag,” he still thought the “climax good” and considered GV Prakash the “second hero” for his excellent “songs, bgm.” Roshan M concluded it was a “family entertainer.” Gokul GK agreed, noting Dhanush’s ability to deliver “heartfelt emotions with rooted storytelling.” He added that GV Prakash’s score boosted the film, and the “father–son bond & village vibes land perfectly!”

However, not everyone was singing its praises. Arun ᴷᴵᴺᴳ’s review was quite blunt. He found ‘Idli Kadai’ to be “Boring,” describing the first half as “average” and the second half as the “worst.” He went as far as to suggest that “Dhanush needs to stop directing.” Arun ᴷᴵᴺᴳ also made a notable prediction: “Sadly there is no Nagarjuna to save this time 😭 Telugu closing will be less than 3cr 👍🏻.”

Despite the mixed reactions, some viewers found true joy in the film. Deepak🦅 called it a “positive response ❤️🔥” and a “must watch movie with the connected family emotions ✨.” Maari ™ echoed this sentiment, praising the “Emotional first half with peak interval block.” He joyfully declared, “OG commercial @dhanushkraja is back 🛐🔥.”

As ‘Idli Kadai’ begins its run in cinemas, it’s clear the film has sparked conversation. With strong performances and an emotional core, it seems to be winning hearts for some, while leaving others wanting more.
