ICC ODI Rankings: Shubman Gill Leads, Virat Kohli Jumps to Fifth Spot

The ICC has released its latest ODI rankings amidst the Champions Trophy, and it’s no surprise that we’re seeing some significant changes. With continuous ODIs taking place, the rankings are getting a fresh new look. Shubman Gill has managed to increase his lead over Babar Azam of Pakistan, while Virat Kohli has jumped up the ranks – and it’s easy to see why. His brilliant century against Pakistan was a highlight, and it seems to have given him a nice boost.

Shubman Gill Takes the Top Spot

In the new ICC rankings, Shubman Gill is sitting pretty at number one. His rating has increased to 817, although he still hasn’t quite reached his all-time high of 847, which he achieved back in 2023. Babar Azam, the former Pakistan captain, remains at number two with a rating of 770. The gap between the two has grown considerably, making it a tough climb for Babar Azam to reclaim the top spot.

Rohit Sharma Holds Steady

Team India captain Rohit Sharma is still holding strong at number three with a rating of 757. However, he hasn’t had the best run in his last two innings. Meanwhile, South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen is at number four with a rating of 749. Virat Kohli has made a move, jumping up to number five with a rating of 743. His unbeaten 100 runs on 111 balls against Pakistan was a clear factor in this change.

Deril Mitchell Takes a Hit

New Zealand’s Deril Mitchell has slipped down to number six with a rating of 717. Ireland’s Harry Tector is at number seven with a rating of 713, managing to maintain his position. Charith Asalanka of Sri Lanka is at number eight with a rating of 694, followed by India’s Shreyas Iyer at number nine with a rating of 679. Rounding out the top ten is West Indies’ Shai Hope with a rating of 672. It’s worth noting that despite Ireland, Sri Lanka, and West Indies not being part of the Champions Trophy, their players are still making a strong showing in the top ten – a testament to their skill and dedication.
