ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Key Changes in Team Squads Ahead of February 19 Start

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is just around the corner, with the tournament set to commence on February 19. After a long wait, Pakistan has been given the opportunity to host an ICC tournament, and the Indian team will play all their matches at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. All eight participating teams had announced their squads by the end of January, but there have been some significant changes since then. Several players have been ruled out due to injuries, while others have withdrawn from the tournament for personal reasons.

Changes in Team Squads

The Australian team made the most changes, with five players being replaced. Captain Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Marsh, and Marcus Stoinis were all part of the initial squad, but they have now been replaced due to injuries or personal reasons. Cummins, Hazlewood, and Marsh are unavailable due to injuries, while Starc has withdrawn for personal reasons, and Stoinis has announced his retirement from international cricket.

Changes in the Indian Team

The Indian team also made two changes to their squad. Jasprit Bumrah was initially included, but his fitness was a concern. The BCCI later announced that Bumrah would not be able to participate in the tournament due to an injury and was replaced by Harshit Rana. Another change was made, with Yashasvi Jaiswal being replaced by Varun Chakravarthy in the main team.

Changes in Other Teams

Other teams, such as Afghanistan, England, and South Africa, have also made changes to their squads. Afghanistan replaced injured mystery spinner Allah Ghanzafar with Nangyalia Kharote. England replaced Jacob Bethell, who was injured, with Tom Banton. South Africa replaced Enrich Nortje, who was not fully fit, with Corbin Bosch.

Pakistan and New Zealand Squad Changes

There may be changes to the squads of Pakistan and New Zealand as well. Pakistan announced their squad late, and there is speculation about potential changes. Haris Rauf, who was injured during a tri-series match, may not be able to participate in the Champions Trophy. New Zealand’s squad may also see changes, with Lockie Ferguson and Rachin Ravindra’s availability uncertain due to injuries.
