‘I Woke Up in Vomit’: Tyrrell Hatton’s Wild Ryder Cup Celebration

Tyrrell Hatton, the seasoned English golfer, just earned his spot on the European Ryder Cup team. This wasn’t an easy win. After moving to the LIV Golf circuit in 2024, Hatton faced an uphill battle to qualify. But his strong performances, including two good showings on the DP World Tour and a fourth-place finish at the US Open, sealed his place. He will now join Captain Luke Donald’s squad against the United States in New York, with matches running from September 26 to 28.

The moment called for celebration, and Hatton, 33, certainly delivered. He linked up with fellow golfer Jon Rahm, a former world number one who also joined the Saudi-backed LIV Golf league. Rahm had just secured the individual LIV Golf title, adding another reason for a big night out. “My God, it was aggressive. It was horrible… But at the same time it was funny,” Hatton confessed about their revelry.

The night unfolded into a hazy memory for Hatton. He described stumbling back to his room and collapsing onto the bed, face down. It wasn’t long before he woke up, still in that awkward position, feeling sick. “I woke up a little later vomiting in that position,” he recalled.

The next morning offered little relief. Hatton explained, “I fell asleep again and when I woke up I had vomit on my arms, on both sides, on my shirt. I looked in the mirror and had vomit on my face, and the bed…” It was a truly messy scene.

Faced with the aftermath, Hatton took action. He ended up stripping the bed completely. Before leaving, he made sure to leave some money and a note. The note simply read: “I’m very sorry, I felt sick during the night, please throw everything away.” A memorable way to mark a Ryder Cup qualification, to say the least.
