‘I couldn’t find my mother, I got a picture of the body’

Three trains – two passenger, one freight. In just a few minutes these three trains collided. So far, at least 288 people have died and more than 900 people have been injured. The accident took place in Bahangabazar area of ​​Baleswar district of Orissa around 7 pm on Friday. It is said to be the worst train accident of the century.

The BBC spoke to a few people about it. Suryavir is one of them. Who could not find his mother. Later he got a picture of his mother’s body, but still not found the body. He is still waiting for his mother’s body, hoping to at least perform the last rites.

Suryaveer said, my mother and grandmother went to town by train to buy medicine. After some time I heard about the train accident. I ran there. A few hours later I found Grandma alive. But I could not find my mother. We looked for him everywhere but couldn’t find him. I did not understand what to do, what should I do? So I circulate a picture of my mother and a description of what she wore that day among friends and relatives. Next morning I received a photo of a dead body from my friend. The picture was of my mother, wearing a similar outfit.

He also said, now I want to bring my mother’s body home at any cost. I want to complete his last rites. But there is great chaos. Besides there are no trains for communication and the roads are very congested.
