"I am a woman, not a package." - Alia Bhatt on the patriarchal coverage of her pregnancy

Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt recently announced via social media that she is expecting her first child. Her photo shows her and Ranbir Kapoor watching an ultrasound together. Although the couple was showered with congratulations, Alia Bhatt was also deeply disappointed by the misogynistic media coverage.

The actress responded via her Instagram Story to messages suggesting that her films had now been postponed indefinitely. In addition, another message appeared saying that Ranbir Kapoor would travel to England to pick her up and travel to Mumbai together.

“In some people’s minds, we still live in a patriarchal world…FYI. No project has been delayed!!!! No one has to pick anyone up. I am a woman, not a package!!! I don’t need to REST at all, but it’s good to know that you also have a medical certificate. It’s 2022. Can we stop thinking in this old-fashioned way? Now, if you’ll excuse me… my shot is done (sic).”
