Hurriyat leader Yasin Malik convicted in terrorism funding case

  • Indian court has convicted Kashmiri Hurriyat leader Yasin Malik in a terrorism funding case.

Yasin Malik was transferred to New Delhi after his arrest in Srinagar on February 22, 2019. He was charged with terrorist activities, raising funds for terrorism and expressing anti-national views.

According to Indian media, a special court in New Delhi was hearing the case against Yasin Malik under India’s most controversial law (UAPA Act).

During the hearing, Yasin Malik had refused to take the help of any lawyer during the hearing and said that he would cross-examine the witnesses himself.

Indian media claimed last week that Yasin Malik had admitted the allegations against him, but Yasin

Malik’s wife Mashaal Malik said that she did not admit to any terrorist act or financing for terrorism but admitted that she was fighting for the right to self-determination like Bhagat Singh and Gandhi did too.

An Indian court has found Yasin Malik guilty on the basis of the same statement. Yasin Malik’s sentence will be discussed in court on May 25.

The court directed the National Intelligence Agency to find out the financial condition of Yasin Malik. The court also asked Yasin Malik to submit an affidavit regarding his assets.

Yesterday, the Indian charge d’affaires stationed in Pakistan was summoned to the Foreign Ministry.

Pakistani officials strongly condemned the fabricated and baseless allegations leveled against Yasin Malik by the Indian charge d’affaires and handed over a letter of protest.

Pakistan demanded that the liberated Kashmiri leadership not be held hostage by depriving it of basic human rights, and that Yasin Malik be acquitted of all baseless charges.
