Hundreds of sexual assaults reported in the Canadian military

OTTAWA: The Canadian Minister of Defense and Chief of Defense Staff has acknowledged a failure to protect troops from sexual assault.

According to foreign media, incidents of sexual assault and harassment are on the rise all over the world, targeting civilians and even the military is not safe from sexual assaults.

The report states that the Canadian military has reported nearly 1,000 incidents of sexual assault and harassment in the past six years.

There were 581 sexual assaults and 221 sexual harassment cases reported in the Canadian military, with Defense Chief General Wayne commenting that “trust is the difference between life and death and we have lost that trust.”

On the other hand, Defense Minister Anita Anand apologized to the victims of sexual assault and harassment by the government and supported handing over the investigation to civilian authorities.
