A warning has been issued to a Thai government spokesperson to choose their words carefully. This comes after a statement about “good neighbor” behavior.
The issue started when Cambodia threatened to stop importing Thai fruits and vegetables. They wanted Thailand to reopen its border crossings within 24 hours. A Thai spokesperson said this wasn’t how good neighbors should behave. They should talk things out instead.
But a spokesperson for Cambodian leader Hun Sen fired back. “You’re shameless,” they said. “When we talk about stopping imports, you say that’s not what good neighbors do. Yet, you’re the ones closing the border by yourselves. Is that good neighbor behavior?”
The spokesperson also accused Thailand of using a dirty trick. They said Thailand was closing the border and then asking for talks, but was too afraid to lose face.
This exchange of words is heating up the situation between the two countries.
