A deadly clash between Thai and Cambodian troops has sparked outrage. One Cambodian soldier died in the fight near the border.
Cambodia’s former Prime Minister, Hun Sen, spoke out against the violence. He said he supports the government’s decision to send more troops and heavy weapons to the border.
Hun Sen posted on Facebook, condemning the attack. He warned against stirring up ethnic hatred.
The fight happened near a disputed area. Cambodia’s Defense Ministry said Thai troops fired first. A 48-year-old Cambodian soldier, Suon Raw, was killed.
Hun Sen hopes talks between the two countries’ military leaders will ease tensions. He wants peace and friendship between Thailand and Cambodia.
He also expressed sadness for the family of the fallen soldier. “This is not just a great loss for his family, but also for our country,” Hun Sen said. “We lost a patriot who gave his life for our nation’s integrity and sovereignty.”
